Now You’re There
by
Mark M. DeRobertis
Hovering above a body motionless
Floating temporarily in time and space
Looking down upon yourself devoid of life
Maybe you won’t even recognize your face
So what happens now
What is left of you
Who can tell you how
What else can you do
Soon you will be resting in another place
Swirling through dimensions of a diff’rent kind
Ev’rything is changing into something else
Catastrophic sights are blazing through your mind
Thoughts are coming faster than a brain can think
All alone with no one there to see it through
Far away a light is shining in the dark
Reaching out for something as it comes to you
What is up ahead
All a mystery
Are you really dead
What is soon to be
You try to shout...but you forgot you have no mouth
So you cannot speak
You try to hear...but you forgot you have no ears
Never felt so weak
There...beyond the world on which your spirit will descend
Lies many mysteries all just around the bend
The time has come you will discover what’s in store
So when you get there will you open up the door
To a new life that’s waiting for everyone you know
No matter if no one wants to go
When the time comes the choices already have been made
Too late if you’re feeling too afraid
Now you’re there so you might as well go in
Wait...you realize...that if you do...what is the cost
Fate...if someone dies...all that they knew...forever lost
Try...to take a diff’rent approach, decide you want to return
Live out a lifetime again
Fly...above the door to a world, a life you want to relearn
But can you ever know when
Fall...in the pit...of remorse...for the past
Call...what you did...in the course...you were cast
Know...about your everyday life...and the decisions you made
The day you fell out of grace
So many times you wanted better than what...the other people would get
Like little rats in a race
But now you’re there, so you might as well go in
Might be the place that’s the best you’ve ever been
God...is ever present but you don’t know where he is
You try to find him through the static and the fiz
But he’s elusive so you wonder where you are
You end up falling like a tiny, shooting star
Through the fabric of what might be called another place
Not part of the earthly time and space
That you’re used to for living through many, many years
Reducing yourself to all your fears
Now you’re there so you might as well go in
Yeah, now you’re there, so you might as well go in
Might be the place that’s the best you’ve ever been
