Spotless was your record
You were not a sinner
So you start to wonder why you’re not up there in heaven
With the other winners
You made the life that you had
You thought it wasn’t so bad
You did the things you could do
You handled all that you knew
Money was your answer
You went out and made it
Making your investment in the things that were important
That was how you played it
You thought that you were so clean
You thought you never were mean
You kept your enemies near
So do you know why you’re here
Not believing as you find the company you’re in
Murderers and prostitutes and pimps who lived in sin
If you had a body you’d be scratching your head
You were sure another place was waiting instead
You would like a second chance to figure it all out
Thinking back on how you lived, what was it all about
Is there a solution to the trouble you’re in
Is there still a way that you can try it again
Who would know all the ways you once believed
Weren’t the right ways
Who could know what you thought was up and down
Turned out sideways
Who were the people...trampled before you...and left in the dust
Didn’t they help you...to get where you are but...you left them to rust
While you were rising...climbing the ladder...you thought you were smart
You had forgotten...all those who were with you...and right from the start
But you never heard...not a single word...from the little bird
In your ear
What it had to say...ev’ry single day...you were gonna pay
But it wouldn’t be...something you could see...there was nat’rally
More to fear
Never mind the cost...all of this you lost...just to be the boss
Do you remember...while you were still living...the things that you did
Who was out looking...to help all the people...while you only hid
You didn’t need it...not even religion...it wasn’t for you
It was below you...because you rejected...what you had to do
Who would know all the ways you once believed
Weren’t the right ways
Who could know what you thought was up and down
Turned out sideways
Now you want a break...seeing where you are...this is not for you
Just what will it take...once you fell so far...now what can you do
You thought it would be paradise after you were buried
Who washed away all of the dark sins that your soul carried
Death is the one thing that comes for sure
Death is the one thing that comes for sure
Death is the one thing that comes for sure
Death is the one thing that comes for sure
