Kings Will Rise Up
by
Mark M. DeRobertis
Kings will rise up…empires will fall
But in the end we go down with them all
Just like a moth, born as a worm
Drawn to the light once you’ve lived out your term
You just believe in something if you see it
But you’ve a soul and death will come to free it
Floating ever weightless in the tunnel of your mind
Looking for an answer to the life you left behind
Moments before you close your eyes forever
Time has run out you’ll know it’s now or never
Ev’rything you knew before and ev’rything you were
Is it all forgotten how can anyone be sure
Kings will rise up…empires will fall
But in the end we go down with them all
So many questions...that have no answers
But we still ask them...until the end of our days
We made religion...to solve our problems
But we still have them...until the parting of ways
When you find yourself in the afterlife
Will you make your way past the pearly gate
Will it turn out diff’rent than what you thought
Is it hell or heaven to be your fate
Kings will rise up…empires will fall
But in the end we go down with them all
Holy men are ev’rywhere, like locusts in a tree
Praying here and praying there, but will they pray for me
Making quite a business of emotions in your mind
Point you to the sky above to leave your past behind
Ev’ryone I know is hoping for a miracle to intervene
Keeping them alive another day by praying to a god unseen
When your day of reckoning arrives will you be heard
Will the songs and hymns you sing be worth a single word
Are you satisfied that you have proved yourself before
Or is something hiding in your past
You don ‘t have to go around pretending any more
Nothing on this earth will ever last
Kings will rise up…empires will fall
But in the end we go down with them all
Just like a moth, born as a worm
